Trobicin Drug Description
Trobicin®
(spectinomycin) for Injectable Suspension, USP
To reduce the development of drug-resistant bacteria and maintain the effectiveness of TROBICIN Sterile Powder and other antibacterial drugs, TROBICIN Sterile Powder should be used only to treat or prevent infections that are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by bacteria.

What are the possible side effects of spectinomycin (Trobicin)?

If you experience a rare but serious allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives), stop taking spectinomycin and seek emergency medical attention.
Other less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Continue to use spectinomycin and talk to your doctor if you experience:

nausea;
dizziness;
soreness at the injection site; or
fever.

TROBICIN Sterile Powder contains spectinomycin hydrochloride which is an aminocyclitol
antibiotic produced by a species of soil microorganism designated as Streptomyces
spectabilis. Sterile spectinomycin hydrochloride is the pentahydrated dihydrochloride
salt of spectino-mycin. The structural formula is represented below:








Spectinomycin hydrochloride is isolated as a white to pale buff crystalline dihydrochloride pentahydrate powder, molecular weight 495, and is stable in the dry state for 36 months.
